Leaving the FEX at 9 am (514 Lackawanna Ave, Scranton, PA)

Or meet at Nanticoke falls at 10 am

    Price: $30.00, payable upon arrival

The FEX and Pioneer Tours will be taking an autumn guided canoe tour starting at Nanticoke falls and ending in Shickshinny. After landing in Shickshinny the travelers will cross the bridge into the town of Mocanaqua and climb along the cliff trails.  This is a 6-8 mile hike in hardwood & pine forest along open and marked paths.

The canoe leg is all down river, easy, and lasts about 4 hours. The identification of trees, plants, animals and their evolution will be discussed.  The hike will also last around 4 hours.  This time approximation allows us to take breaks and move at a gentle pace to enjoy the fall foliage.

The canoe paddle is not hard, but the hike is intermediate - to- difficult. This eight hour effort will require moderate conditioning. Voyageurs have the option of participating in just the canoe leg and opting out of the trail hike upon the conclusion of the first half.

Weather can range from hot to cool so it is best to bring some warm clothing. For the adventurers, wool would be ideal, and bringing an extra set of clothing in case of splash or rain would ensure comfort. Sturdy shoes with ankle support are sufficient for the hike portion. Bringing a drink and snack is suggested.  There will be a shuttle back to Nanticoke falls, and a ride back to the FEX at the completion of both legs of the trip.

FEX members and the general public are welcome to participate. Come join us for a day of watching the tree-tops turn to fire as we explore a corner of our local wilderness.
