Tornado Safety Tips

The Tornado At Lake Carey - June 2, 1998

Out of nowhere came a quietness and fear never before felt - suddenly the
chimes began to get restless, it was then, the darkness began to consume
it's path of destruction "here is where we meet ourselves".  Suddenly, a roar of
unbelievable strength ripped it's way through this community. Though so many homes
were spared, it brought with it,  it's share of pain, death and many challenges to hurdle.

To think, those 100-year-old oak trees, broken like toothpicks, and the tall hemlocks uprooted like weeds, were not only there to give decades of shade, but also for a
moment of saving lives - absorbing the rage of these winds.

Now, in photos taken fifteen hours after the tornado, Lake Carey,

as a community,  was well on it's way to recovery.
There are many people to thank for their professional or volunteering efforts.

The task was, and still is, overwhelming.  A special "thank you" to The Red Cross,
The State Police, The National Guard, and all professionals who met the challenge.

Along with local contractors who cared about the community, and efforts from
groups not even affected by the damage, only good can come to pass as we
look and move forward to a new and improved community.

A residency at Lake Carey, Pa.
June 3, 1998

We were just settling down from a fun Memorial Day weekend last year,
when only two days later,
we found ourselves running for shelter.

It was a very frightening experience.

We would like to thank the following professionals and friends for their help

and continued support.

Beginning with State Farm Insurance,
and our local agent, Jeffrey Ruddell,
we were assured that our settlement
would be quickly expedited.

With help  from good friends, who shared the responsibility of  removing trees and debris from
our property, and our contractors, who provided  optimism and moral support when needed,
we were well on our way to recovery.

The contractors, with obligations to so many people already, made a great effort and
managed to repair our home to it's present
state in a short period of time.

They are: Bob Stevens, of S&W Construction, Tom Ford, and of course, last but not least,
our landscaper, Frank Valvano.

A big thank you to all !
