Depression glass displayed at the Tunkhannock Library Looking at the Depression glass display at the Tunkhannock Library brought back memories from some people who grew up during the thirties. One gentleman remembers receiving a solitary gift at Christmas throughout his childhood--often a book (which was a treat). A woman recalls having to wear shoes that were too small as her feet kept growing. Her feet remind her of that deprivation on a daily basis. Another woman said her parents wanted a large family, but felt they couldn't afford it and carefully spaced their two babies five years apart. “Grapes of Wrath,” the title to be discussed by the Wyoming County Reads program, is a fictional chronicle of the Dust Bowl migration during the Great Depression. It specifically follows the story of the Joads, an Oklahoma farm family. Many people read this classic in high school. Now is an opportunity to revisit the winner of the Nobel Prize for
Literature and read it with a background of life
experience. The books are available for a two-month check out at Wyoming
County libraries. Kristin Smith-Gary
