Story Hour

The Tunkhannock Public Library's Story Hour is held throughout the year.
Check for up-to-date information on our Facebook page or call the library at 836-1677.
Guest readers choose stories, songs and craft themes for each different date.

All ages are welcome and there is no fee or registration.
It begins at 11:00 a.m. in the LIBRARY COMMUNITY ROOM.

Story Hour is a great opportunity for children to get together with their peers and
for parents to meet and make friends as well.

Call the library (836-1677) for more information.

The library is always looking for volunteers who are willing to share a reading experience
for Story Hour. For more information, please call the Tunkhannock Public Library
at 836-1677.

Accelerated Reader®     Accelerated Reader

AR is a computer program that helps teachers and parents to see how well students under-stand what they are reading. Students read an AR book on their assigned book level and then take a test about the book on a school computer. Students earn points for testing well.

Many books are AR books! To find out if a book is an AR book, visit the website http://www.arbookfind.com and type in the book's title. The website will tell you if the book is AR. It will even tell you the book's level (BL) and point value. Library books are marked by book level and point value with colored stickers.

Come and check out our Discovery Kits in the Children's Section here at the library.

In the fall of 2004 The Tunkhannock Public Library was notified of its inclusion in the 2004-2005 P&G Fund contributions. A gift of $5,000.00 was committed to the Discovery Kits project. Together the Fund and the Library have created twenty (20) theme boxes which can enhance the learning of pre-school through third grade children of our community.

After completing a Discovery Kit form any adult library patron may check out a Discovery Kit. Since the form will be placed in a file, it must only be completed once. The patron will also receive a copy for future reference. The rules of use are listed on the form. The Kits are checked out for a 7-day period and cannot be renewed. Each family is limited to one kit per week. The overdue fine is $1.00 per day.

Children's Summer Programs

The Library is famous for its schedule of  Summer Programs for children.  Reading and spending time at the Library is definitely a cool thing to do. The schedule for summer programs is usually announced around the middle of May. Informational flyers will be distributed to all of the area elementary schools, as well as the fifth graders in the middle school. Watch here on the website for an early look at what will be available.
